Toronto’s Radical Road Brewing Co has teamed up with Hydro Dynamics, Inc to brew the first commercial beer in Canada that uses hop extraction technology.
The beer, Hi-Fi Cavitation, is a lactose IPA brewed using the enhanced extraction capability of the manufacturer’s ShockWave Xtractor Technology to assist in dry hopping.
According to Hydro Dynamics, the equipment that was installed by Hollins Equipment, harnesses the pressure fluctuations of cavitation for increased hop flavor extraction in less time and with higher beer yields.
“With the proliferation of craft breweries the demand for hops and the prices have increased. The ShockWave Xtractor allows brewers to produce beers with up to 50% less hops as well as enhancing extraction of fruits, spices, woodchips, coffee and other flavors,” they explained.
