New BP owners talk of increasing sales force

Constellation Brands have officially washed its hands of Ballast Point and new owners – the relatively unknown Kings & Convicts of Chicago – have taken control and are charting a new course.

New CEO Brendan Watters, who claims the start of the deal was made on a golf course, says he will increase marketing and Ballast Points’ sales force, which were consolidated under Constellation Brands.

However, there was no mention of bringing back the quality of Ballast Point which most would agree suffered under Constellation.

The giant bought Ballast Point in 2015 for $1 billion; it is believed that Kings & Convicts bought it for around $68 million, plus several years of hop contacts which the new owners inherited from Constellation.

According to Brewbound, much of the new Ballast Point’s focus will be on California, which accounts for 65% of the brewery’s business. The goal is to re-engage in its home state and home market, along with about a dozen major markets, including Chicago, New York, Boston, Philadelphia and Texas, among others.
