Earlier this week, The Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA) announced that they are reducing some production taxes for larger regional breweries. This advantage, however, will not apply to smaller craft breweries but does bring the provinces’ tax rates closer to those of other provinces.
For every litre of beer Canadian breweries sell in Saskatchewan, they pay a production levy and the rate is based on how much beer they make on a total annual basis.
The change became live on July 1 applying to three categories: craft, regional and national or international brewers. The rate for breweries producing 200,000 to 400,000 HL, will rise in increments lower than $1.873, saving a brewer millions of dollars in the long run.
