The Second Wedge Brewing Co will be releasing a new stout next month to help support the Black Lives Matter movement. The Uxbridge brewery has joined several others across both Canada and the US in answering the call of support put out by Weathered Souls Brewing in San Antonio, Texas, who shared their Black is Beautiful stout recipe and invited others to join in brewing the beer as part of a fundraising effort to support organizations for equality and inclusion.
“We’ve really been inspired by all the protests and the peaceful marches and just the initiative,” said Joanne Richter, co-owner of the Second Wedge. “We’re seeing such a groundswell of people really wanting to take this opportunity, to not just let this go by but step up and help to do something about anti-Black racism once and for all.”
Richter, alongside Zed Pickering and Maggie Finlayson, co-organizers of the recent anti-racist stand-in in Uxbridge, will be dedicating 100 percent of their proceeds to the Black Legal Action Centre, which provides free legal services to no or low-income Black residents in Ontario.
The new Black is Beautiful stout will be released August 11.
