Founded by 15-year Canadian resident, Simon Welton, Welton Brewery combines his Chester, UK roots with his Kelowna, BC brew. Welton’s Canadian experience creates beer that reflects the flavours of his heritage mixed with the local ingredients of his Canadian home.
This past weekend, Welton Brewery launched its taproom with their Guilden Sutton Golden Ale–a smooth and gently hopped light coloured ale that combines a gentle mouth feel with subtle caramel notes.
The Tiffen Ale made its debut today and is described as a homage to Welton’s Irish heritage. The beer is named after his maternal grandparents who would have enjoyed this distinctly Irish red ale with a little more hops to satisfy any hop head.
The lineup of beer also features the Salford Sour with blackberry Lime-a berliner weisse at heart but with some English malts and English water profile to at least give it some distinctive English characteristics. Blackberry lime is added late for a burst of fresh fruit flavour, alongside the British Warlock Ale-the copyright non-infringing butterscotch ale reminiscent of the one described in a beloved children’s series that is close to Welton’s heart. This beer will capture as many imaginations as the books that inspired it.
