Anheuser-Busch closes on Craft Brew Alliance purchase

Anheuser-Busch announced that it will acquire the remaining stake in Craft Brew Alliance (CBA) in November for $16.50 per share, approx. $220 million (previously valued  at $321 million.)

In August 2019, a deal was rejected to outright purchase CBA. The initial deal stated that by August 23, AB InBev had to buy CBA for US$24.50 per share or make a $20m payment. The brewer opted for the latter and thus pushed back the merger to November.

The current craft beer portfolio consists of Camden Town Brewery and Goose Island which will now expand to include Kona Brewing Co., Widmer Brothers Brewing and Redhook.

CBA chief executive Andy Thomas and chief financial officer Christine Perich have joined the multinational’s Brewers Collective business unit as general managers, overseeing 17 out of its 23 beer brands.

“Connecting with consumers through our brands is at the forefront of everything we do,” said Anheuser-Busch CEO Michel Doukeris.
