With Earth Day less than a month ago, climate change and efforts to preserve the planet continue on a daily basis. In an effort to contribute and bring awareness to climate change, Fat Tire has launched a lousy beer called ‘Torched Earth‘ made from ingredients that will be harvestable in the future. Featuring a smokey malt flavor to represent the shortage of water supply during wildfires.
Originating in Belgium in the 1930’s, Fat Tire was born on a bike. When the co-founder pedaled his way through Europe, sampling beer along the way, the tires on his mountain bike garnered glances and comments that inspired the name of a craft beer icon. The flavor profiles he discovered on that ride sparked the recipe for a beer he would begin to brew in his Colorado basement.
Torched Earth is crafted from drought-tolerant millet and buckwheat instead of barley or wheat, as the grains will be harder to produce in the future due to climate change. The aromatic hops offer a bitter taste which is produced by the dandelions and shelf-stable Hail-Mary extract.
The Flat Tire Torched Earth beer is looking to raise awareness of Belgium’s climate plan, which includes becoming a net-zero emissions company by 2030.
