Craft Breweries Create Awareness with #metoo Moment

Brave Noise is a beer brewed at more than 100 craft breweries, including Anderson Craft Ales, to raise awareness of the need for the industry to be safe and discrimination-free for all.

“It’s no secret that the craft brewing scene is predominantly populated by straight, white men,” owner and brewer Gavin Anderson said. “I think that can sometimes lead to a culture where sexist or misogynistic comments or attitudes are tolerated.

“It is our goal to provide craft beer drinkers with an inclusive and safe environment, free of harassment, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race or religion.”

Brienne Allan, a worker at Notch Brewing in Massachusetts, took to Instagram and started this initiative. She told the story of her situation at her workplace, setting off a #metoo moment in the craft beer industry, which led to Brave Noise, an awareness, conversation-starter and fundraising campaign, which Anderson and more than 100 other brewers have joined.

“When we heard of the Brave Noise initiative goal of bringing awareness to the discrimination and sexism often found in the craft brewing industry, we immediately knew it was a project we wanted to be involved in,” Anderson said.
