Beer Canada Crafts New Student Award at Bishop’s University

Last week, Beer Canada announced the creation of a new student scholarship at Bishop’s University.

The bursary will be awarded annually to a full-time student in the Graduate Certificate in Brewing Science program at the Sherbrooke, Québec university. The recipient will be chosen by the Department based on leadership qualities and academic merit.

“On behalf of Canada’s leading brewers, Beer Canada is pleased to partner with Bishop’s to help develop the next generation of Canadian brewers,” said CJ Hélie, President. “We hope the “Beer Canada Award” valued at $1,000 per year will help a deserving student to complete the program and join Canada’s exciting beer sector”.

Beer Canada has committed $5,000 over the next five years to assist deserving students from Bishop’s University’s Graduate Certificate in Brewing Science program.

The Graduate Certificate in Brewing Science program at Bishop’s University is a full-time, 2-semester, 24-credit graduate program including scientific material. A Bachelor of Science in Biology or a relateddiscipline is required for admission.

Eastern Canada’s first academic experimental brewery is run by the students. “Our program is designed to meet the growing need for well-trained, scientifically educated brewers and brewing analysts,” said Dr Alexandre Drouin, Chair of the Chemistry and Brewing Science Department. “Our students are passionate about beer and it is wonderful to have their efforts recognized by our national industry association”.

Beer Canada supports student awards at postsecondary brewing programs in Canada. Partners include Kwantlen Polytechnic University in Surrey, British Columbia, Olds College in Olds, Alberta and Niagara College in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. Bishop’s University is the latest school for which Beer Canada has established an award.
