A Moncton Brewery’s Momentum

Tire Shack Brewing in Moncton, New Brunswick is receiving a lot of attention this month. The husband-wife duo of Alan Norman and Jerrica Kennedy received Brewery of the Year award, at the annual Canadian Brewers Choice Awards, created by the team at Brewers Journal Canada.

“It’s a pretty big one and it’s pretty crazy,” Norman tells Huddle. “This is the biggest one we’ve ever won for sure. It’s great timing as well because we’re currently in the middle of an expansion.

A year-round rooftop patio will be included in a 4,000 square foot extension at 190 John Street that Norman and Kennedy revealed plans for in late 2021. They told Huddle on Wednesday that they hoped to finish the expansion by the middle to end of the summer of 2023.

“This is going to increase our production capacity and [give us] more cold storage. It’s kind of great timing,” said Norman.

“The whole idea is an expansion for more brewing equipment. When the expansion is complete, right off the bat, we’re almost doubling our brewing capacity.”

A 1,500-hectolitre system is now used by Tire Shack to brew beer. In case they decide to grow further in the future, the addition will have space for additional tanks as well as whisky and tequila barrels so brewers may experiment with various ageing processes.

“We’re really excited to have a totally new program that we’ve never done before,” Kennedy said.

“Barrel-aging beer used to be done before modern refrigeration, so it’s a cool step back in time an experiment,” added Norman.

The two are also not savouring their success. The Riverview locals will soon offer a Cosmopolitan-flavored sour beer in time for the New Year, following the previous releases of doughnut and apple pie ice cream beers. In the beginning of 2023, they also intend to brew a peanut butter and chocolate milkshake stout.
