Arnold Tobler and his business partner Travis Keyworth started Farm Country Brewing in 2019, and the idea behind this venture was to create a sense of community in Langley.
“[We] have been big craft beer fans for years,” Tobler says. “And we figured, at the time, Langley was very underserved as far as craft beer went.”
“We’re both born and raised in Langley,” Tobler says. “So we wanted to open it up in Langley. And then [the current location] became available, and we met the building owner and he was keen to put in this craft brewery down here. And the City of Langley itself has been very supportive.”
The brewery is featured in an initiative called Dine the Line. It is in partnership with Translink and the blog West Coast Food. The goal is to highlight restaurants who are accessible by transit. Recently, craft breweries were added in partnership with the BC Ale Trail.
Farm Country Brewing, which is a stone’s throw away from the Langley Centre bus loop, is featured on a special “brunch to brews” itinerary for Langley. Just four years after opening their doors,, the brewery has already won numerous awards, including a 2022 BC Beer Award for its Sausage Party German Festbier.
“Good beer is first and foremost,” Tobler says. “That’s our number one goal, to always not skimp on ingredients and take the care and the time that it takes to make good quality craft beer.”
“We knew when we brought him on board that we were gonna have fantastic beer,” Tobler says. “So we know that the beer side of things is dialled in.”
“We don’t have TVs, it’s not a sports bar,” Tobler says. “It’s more of a space to sit down and have some drinks and just catch up with friends and family,” he says regarding the space — a large tasting room where people can connect. Combined with a rotating series of both weekly and monthly events, the space has become a huge community hub.
“People love the fact that this is locally produced beer,” Tobler says. “They want to support local, they know that it’s local ownership behind Farm Country Brewing as well. And they know they’re going to get great beer, and a good variety of beers too. But we also have local wine, cider and non-alcoholic beverages as well.”
