One company is making every effort to change the way that adults engage in social drinking. GABA Labs is creating functional chemicals as patented substitutes for alcohol that are said to imitate the desirable effects of alcohol without giving users a hangover.

GABA Labs, a British company, has produced goods that promote social drinking while putting human welfare first utilizing a synthetic GABAergic component. When used responsibly, its flagship product, “Alcarelle,” improves conviviality and sociability while mitigating the negative effects of alcohol.

GABA Labs has requested for registration for Alcarelle as a “novel food” in the U.K., E.U., and Canada even though it hasn’t yet received approval for usage. According to the GABA Labs website, it has also applied for registration in the United States.
