The John Mitchell Award for Brewing Excellence was created to honor the legacy of the late John Mitchell, Canada’s original craft brewer and a pioneering figure in the craft beer movement who played a pivotal role in shaping the industry. In 1982, John Mitchell started an economic and cultural revolution when he pioneered Canada’s first craft brewery in Horseshoe Bay BC. John Mitchell’s dedication to innovation, quality, and community-building serves as an inspiration to brewers and beer enthusiasts worldwide. Today, we are honoring his legacy while celebrating the next generation of brewers who have made a major impact on Canada’s craft beer industry.

THE PRESENTATION
The event will be held on Thursday, October 5th at The Barley Merchant Taproom & Kitchen located at 20090 91A Ave, Building B, Unit 101 in Langley near the Colossus movie theatre. The event kicks off at 3:00pm with a tapping of four student brewed beers from the Kwantlen Polytechnic University Brewing Program. The John Mitchell Lifetime Achievement Award for Brewing Excellence will be announced at 4:30pm.
