Mexico Seeing a Rise in Craft Beer

Mexico is really seeing a rise in craft beer, and the Cerveza Mexico 2022 may have something to do with that.

The three-day celebration of craft beer took place in Mexico City, drawing over 16,000 attendees to the World Trade Center in October and merged with the announcement of the winners of the Cerveza Cup 2022, a prize which recognizes the best in Mexican craft beer.

47 international judges evaluated some 709 beers from a total of 136 breweries across Mexico, with the beers classified in 43 categories–three craft breweries were awarded.

Guadalajara, Jalisco-based Cervecería Capital Pecado, a small family business that was founded in 2017 was named the best small brewery of 2022. Tijuana’s Kaminari Brewing was named the best medium-sized brewery and Buqui Bichi Brewing in Hermosillo, Sonora, the best large craft brewery in Mexico

Cerveza Mexico founder, Marcos Gottfried, said the 2022 event demonstrated important advances in the industry over the past two years, not just in terms of production and marketing, but also in the quality of the craft beers being delivered…

“The same judges who attended Cerveza Mexico as part of the Cerveza Cup said there had been a significant improvement in the quality of Mexican craft beer during the 24 months, concluding that Mexico had now set the bar very high at a global level in terms of craft beer quality.”

“We have seen growth year after year in the craft beer industry,” Gottfried added, “and that comes down to the dramatic improvement in product.
