According to a May 3 news release, Canada Malting Co. (CMC) has completed construction on its new adjuncts processing plant and bagging line at their Calgary, Alberta manufacturing site. To better serve craft brewers and distillers, this expansion will provide enhanced quality control and product customization options.
In 2021, CMC started building a new plant for adjunct processing and packaging. According to the press announcement, the equipment was placed in the summer of 2022, first commissioning started in October, and testing took place over the next six months. In order to produce quality adjuncts that fulfill brewer requirements, all systems are currently in operation.
“Canada Malting has made, and will continue to make, investments that service the needs of its customers while adding value to Canada’s agricultural supply chain,” Kyran Flett, director of international sales at United Malt, said in the release. “This facility expands our footprint in Calgary while showing our long-term commitment to the brewers, distillers, and the many local farmers we rely on.”
The announcement stated that Country Malt Group warehouses will shortly receive the first commercial batches from this new plant. Brewers should be aware that although there can be a minor difference in the way the product looks, the general application is the same and the quality has increased.
