Raise Your Glass to the Newest Beer Knight in Canada

Jody Palubiski, the CEO of Charcoal Group and a native of Cambridge, has been made an honorary beer knight by the Confederation of Belgium Brewers, making him one of just a select few Canadians to do so.

“The Belgian Brewers do such an amazing job at celebrating their history and their incredible beer culture. To receive this recognition on behalf of every team member of the Charcoal Group, is a huge honour,” said Palubiksi in a news release.

The Knighthood of the Brewers’ Paddle, also known as the Belgian Brewers’ Guild, has an annual induction ceremony in September when new knights are welcomed. Saint Arnould, the patron saint of brewers, is remembered during Beer Weekend at Brussels’ Grand-Place, where a select group of people from all over the world are honoured for their achievements in the beer industry and their efforts to promote Belgian beer.

“When we created Beertown, we were determined to shine a light on the best beers from around the globe. Given the incredibly rich brewing history of Belgium it goes without saying that they are a big part of our business.  Belgium is home to some of the very best beers in the world,” Palubiski said.

“Beer is at the centre of everything we do. It’s an art, a craft, and a form of artistic expression. The value we put on well-made beer is clear through our longstanding and authentic relationships with our vendors and suppliers. They are part of the Charcoal Group family, and it’s a thrill for everyone in this group to receive this type of international recognition.”

According to the press release, Palubiski has demonstrated his experience and awareness of what it takes to make items that are worth curating through relationships with the Beertown brand, the largest restaurant operating under the Charcoal Group umbrella.
