Village adds fourth

Calgary’s Village Brewery has announced the addition of a new beer to its year-round line-up. Village Nomad IPA (6.5% ABV, 60 IBU) is described by Village as having “a bright hazy colour, a balanced wheat and barley malt backbone and a showcase of peach, mango and citrus notes provided by galaxy, mosaic and citra hops.” This was announced first by Canadian Beer News.

Along with Nomad, Villege Brewery has recently released three other beers.

The Village Local is its first low alcohol offering. This brand was designed to be a pale ale that appeals to everyone. “It has some nice balanced sweetness from the caramel malts while the low-moderate bitterness comes from two whirlpool additions of Citra and Ella. Due to the very low amount of malt in the Local, it has a very light and refreshing mouthfeel and body,” says Village

The Logger showcases Rahr’s Premium Pilsner malt, and it provides a soft and subtle light straw colour and flavour. The hops are American (Loral) and German (Mandarina Bavaria) sourced. They provide an alternative to traditional grassy flavours with some subtle floral and citrus characteristics.

Beatnik session ale contains the addition of two hop varieties along with an orange, lemon peel and hibiscus flower addition. Married together these citrus and floral notes add a mild tart note that is balanced by a light sweetness from the caramel malt.

“Our crazy Beatnik doesn’t dig rules. In this swinging session ale, six mellow malts are jiving with a pair of hep hops, when that cat says ‘time for tea?’ isn’t that heresy? No, Daddy-O, it’s pure poetry. With just one rule: Keep it cool.”
