Marijuana drinks hit store shelves

The long wait is over, major Canadian cannabis producers and their beer brewing backers are ready to launch a full line-up of CBD-infused drinks, according to investment newsletter The Motley Fool.

While laws were changed earlier this year, hold-ups have occurred around permits, with the government moving at what some experts describe as a “snail-paced” effort to clear up the backlog of pending licenses and open dispensaries.

Canopy Growth, partnered with Constellation Brands, will introduce 13 cannabis-based drinks; HEXO’s Truss Beverage joint venture with Molson Coors will over six different brands; and Tilray and Anheusher-Busch InBev are making a mix of CBD-infused flavoured teas through their Fluent Beverage venture.

Labatt’s president Kyle Norrington told Bloomberg that the brewers “beyond beer” portfolio could end up being 10 percent of its production within five years. With beer consumption in decline, The Motley Fool believes this will happen sooner.
