Canada’s drink-leaders drinking less

While British Columbians still drink more than other Canadians, they’re drinking less, according to a study carried out by the Canadian Institute for Substance Use Research (CISUR) and reported by ATAC.

Despite BC being famous for the number of high-quality craft brewers, British Columbian residents actually drink less beer than the rest of Canada – 34% of all alcohol sales as opposed to 40% – but drink more other alcoholic liquors.

In looking at data from 2013, BC per-capita consumption of alcohol decreased from 9.44 litres of absolute ethanol consumed in 2017-2018, to 9.35 litres consumed from 2018-2019, reports ATAC.
