While some hoped that cannabis and beer would go together like toast and jam, the reality is that users enjoy one or the other, not both.
According to an article in the Financial Post which used data from Beer Canada, Canadians appear to be drinking less beer – three percent less to be exact – since legalization.
“This is far worse than the trends seen between 2014-2018, where beer industry volumes fell an average 0.3 percent,” and appears to be related to Canada’s legalization of pot in late 2018, Cowen analyst Vivien Azer told the Financial Post.
Domestic beer volumes slid 3.9 percent through November, while imported beer volumes grew 1.4 percent. Cannabis consumers appear to prefer mainstream beer “as they pursue better ‘buzz for your buck,”‘ Azer said in a note published Tuesday.
