One of the big USA style movers in 2020 will be “softer-on-the-palate juicy IPA” as opposed to IPAs that have a strong distinction between malts and hops.
This is according to a new article in The Beer Connoisseur which drew its data from market research firm IRI Worldwide.
Leading the way forward with this is Sierra Nevada’s Hazy Little Thing, which has seen rocked sales in 2019, which helped offset a decline in sales for Sierra Nevada’s IPAs and pale ales.
Other trends are:
- Breweries having less focus on distribution and more concentration on taprooms;
- Big breweries seeing themselves as ‘beverage’ providers, not limiting themselves to beer;
- And, the continuing rise in hard seltzer.
