Dan Wright worked at a logistics company in the UK until May 2020. When he lost his job due to the pandemic, he turned lemons into craft beer. Wright converted his garage into a mini brewery while his wife Natalie, was working from home while pregnant.
Six months later, Wright was granted a license from Salford council to sell alcohol online from his home in Worsley.
One week after officially launching (December 10) Wright sold out of his first batch of beers.
The idea behind Hideaway Brewing Co all started from a drunken conversation with the creators of UK-based Salford brewery, Seven Brothers.
“Originally, it wasn’t going to be a business,” said Wright. “Seven Brothers were helpful in giving me tips. It was when I spoke to Danny a few years ago at one of their nights – it was probably a drunken conversation – I said I wanted to do it and he said just go and do it. They’ve been helpful giving me business advice.”
Inspired by both European and American style beers, the craft beer selection boxes are sold online by Hideaway Brewing Co in Farm Lane, Worsley. Among the six beers launched were American rye pale ‘Arcade Nights’ and a double chocolate milkshake stout called ‘End Boss’.
“For me, it’s all about grain to glass,” he said. “We don’t use extracts like large brewers do.”
“It’s just trying to find interesting styles that people might have heard of and trying to get the style as the style so when you look at it, it’s exactly what it says on the can,” said Wright.
The license to sell alcohol off the premises was granted with three conditions including age verification. For now, the website will be the only place where the beer can be bought but he says there has been some interest from local shops which sell craft beer.
